General Surgery
Remarkable advances in the scope of surgery and its branches have become apparent over the past decade. The introduction of new minimally invasive techniques has played a key role in the increase of surgical procedure possibilities and the establishment of new modern clinics. In addition, dramatic advances in micro-vascular surgery, transplantation and surgical intensive care have changed the face of traditional surgery to a considerable extent.
The above has been achieved thanks to the evolution of new high-tech. equipment, the introduction of tiny high resolution video and, most recently, 3D chip cameras to be used with 5 and 10mm fibre optic endoscopes. Small instruments which allow cutting, manipulation and suturing, small and compact solid state lasers, magnetic resonance (MR) compatible radiofrequency systems, harmonic scalpels and other state-of-the-art equipment has successfully been presented to the market. This means that the surgical market is currently undergoing an acceleration process, shifting surgical techniques, diagnostics and research in general surgery and related medical fields such as interventional radiology to a clearly redefined infrastructure. Numerous patients are now more demanding for new techniques and advances in micro-vascular surgery, transplantation, and surgical intensive care, being well informed of the increasing range of less invasive surgical methods. As a result of this development, new surgical methods and innovative equipment face an open window to good market opportunities.
